Re: #464 :P
finished the 4 pot calipers today, all painted ready for the brake conversion kit then they can be fitted on.
also collected 4 avon slicks at a pritty decent price.
fitted the name strip across the front, gave it a wash, and price up some more alloys for the slicks to go on.
dad keyed up the paint work ready for a quick tidy up just for this season.
anyways here are a few pictures

Re: #464 :P
Nice job josh...it makes a change to see things cleaned panted and put back on ...it costs no money, only time to make things look good...why not put 2 slicks on two of the fancy mini lights running sliks on the front and the good road tyres on the rear...I was watching you go round ,the engine sounded sweet as a nut ..you identified the cars understeer and got some slicks and if you havn't raced on slicks you are going to be amazed at their performance once up to temperature...
Re: #464 :P
cheers lordy, nice to here some posotive feed back about the car, from some-one other than my dad,
yea the engine wasnt so bad, its only a standard mind, but seems to deffinatley shift, i was considering that lordy,
but me & my dad have spoken about expense ....
we seem to have found a good sponser who can give amazing discount on new items, such as the mini lights ...
they aint a massive expense even though new ..
this seems to help out alot...
yea the under-steer was something that made the car off the pace, and probabley due to the fact, i really couldnt slow the car down coming into the corners, them single pot calipers just wernt upto my standard of stopping power.
i cant wait to test the slicks out, what are they like to drive on ...
what type of PSI Should i set about running in the e.t.c? .. dad says alot lower than the normal road tyers? & says there extremley grippy & should help me corner ... maybe looking a second faster per lap aslong as the suspension changes we have made are correct.
hopefully im not to far off the pace, as i really hate loosing! just got a few more things to buy for the car
1. brake - bias
( rear brakes seemed abit strong and liked to kick the rear end out into the corners )
2. More Mini-lights
( for the slicks to run on )
dont think im going to go down the coil over route & the home made, or astra back axel just yet, as im happy with the over all handeling of the car without them expenses.
regards josh.

Re: #464 :P
The tyre pressures are something to play with and a few pounds can make a difference either way.. I would start at 20 psi in the front and 17 psi rear as a starting point..as for racing on slicks...what can I say...as an indicator ermmmm...what ever the speed you were cornering at last sunday if you enter the corner at the same speed I wouldn't think there would be any understeer..none! so you can come in at a much greater speed.. when we first went onto racing tyres in the stockers... on my first few hot laps I kept running onto the infield as i was antisicipating side slip..ha! ( bare in mind it takes few laps to warm the tyres so remember to get out on track first and scrub the slicks in a bit).OK thats enough info...ha! as for brake bias on a mini I would think that its imperative that you have one...as on all competition minis there's always too much rear brake..google for more info on the net try circuit mini race set ups and see what you can find as there are some big gains to be had there im sure.
Re: #464 :P
oh thats good to know then, no doubt ill push as hard as i can on the slicks like, try find there limit if they have one!
yea i will google about the brake bia's thats a good idea thanks alot for that.
we were running them kind of preasures on sunday, just having a play around see what i preferd, hopefully the slicks wont
take too long to get up to temperature ...
a lap or two or three .. just want to give it my all from the 1st to the last lap, i cant see a win coming my way this season
due to not having one of them expensive race engines, but starting from the front hopefully not to many of the faster cars
will get past and i will get a handfull of points.
people say to me, just enjoy racing, its not all about winning ... but im only enjoying racing when im winning ... not sure what your
oppinion on that is, but thats just the way i see it ...
your either 1st or Last.

Re: #464 :P
STAY OFF FAHOOKING COIL OVERS THEY ARE A NIGHTMARE!
£100+ of my money wasted! Just turned the car into a boat, up and down up and down as apparently they were the "wrong poundage" but I wasn't going to spend another £50+ on the "right" poundage.
As for back axle. Just before selling the mini I had bought one to fit as we felt it was the way to go! Then I decided the only way to go was out of Stock Car Racing

Re: #464 :P
yes dan, that was a majour point that ive been looking at, the way your car took to coil overs,
the mini seems to handle just how i like it at the minuite, abit loose ...
& i cant really complain at the cornering, i cant see what differance a astra axel would make? its just the same as a subframe really,
both simular shape, exept the mini has cones in the rear subframe to adjust the tilt & ride height of the car ...
id say if opt-ing for coil overs, the astra back axel is the only way to go ?

Re: #464 :P
The car is coming along very nicely Josh, I look forward to seeing the finished product gleaming sat on those alloys! #464 (red) was always a "looker" and I'm sure this one won't disappoint - go "BIG" on the decals
Re: #464 :P
haha, thanks ells bells
i dont think the paint job will be anything special this year, just going to neaten it up where its abit rough e.t.c
and send it to the graphix signs lot to do there magic.
with a new sponser .. there will be
( passanger side ) - South Lakeland Mini Center
(Bottom Passanger side) - #464
(driver side ) - Graphix Signs
Bottom Driver side) - #464
( boot lid ) -
(bonnet ) - some sort of flag arrangement
no idea what to put on boot yet, but should take alot of people attention.
ohh and not to forget the name strip across the front will have my name on
cheers all for the posotive & constructive feed back, ill post up any more up-grades,
no doubt the next beeing putting the 4-pot brakes on & the heavy duty tie bars for the front.
( and hopefully it sprayed & Stickerd up )
ill be there sunday but the mini will be at home as my dads working
just gives me more time to get it finished i guess

Re: #464 :P
well its been a while since a update to the car,
we eventually took order of the ( adjustable front tie bars)
picked up some more 13" J7 alloys, and dad cut the side out of the car
and replaced it with a new streight pice
the beast is eventually taking shape,
no doubt when fitting the 4 pot, vented disks we will add the adjustable tie-bars at the same time
adding to more photos on this thread, along with when the slicks get fitted
more pictures will be posted giving you all something diffrent to look at
enjoy
regards josh.

Things are looking good Josh, bet you cant wait to get some scratches on them new alloys, im sure there will be plenty of volunteers.
I got a few oil leaks to patch up and should be getting some big numbers on the car Wednesday. I Hope these ones stay on and not fly off on the A590! ells did a great job with the 6, will be a shame to remove it.
Bring on the racing.
